There are few rules to abide by when joining Somewhere in Seattle. They aren’t much, but they’ll help things run a little more smoothly and help keep the moderators from having to kill people. Leave us a note with any questions or concerns.
1. The storyline uses the backdrop of Seattle, Washington – present day – for our location. Your character doesn’t have to live in a certain apartment complex or housing development, in fact, I don’t care if you want to have your character live in a box under a bridge, so long as it is a bridge in Seattle.
2. You need to join the main community and friend seattle_mod. There is an OOC community found here and an RP Threading community found here. You don’t have to friend or join either one of them, but it’s strongly recommended. Any OOC posts made on the IC board will be deleted. There are no update or activity requirements, but please don't just take up PB space in the story lines. If we notice that you've been inactive for quite some time then you'll be sent a PM. If there's no response to the PM within a week, we'll remove you. You'll be welcome to reapply.
3. You add yourself to the roster in this happy world. You don't have to have a dedicated AIM name for the character, but please use one you're actually going to be on to RP with. You do this here. Don't forget to delete and recomment with information as it gets updated.
4. The character journals belonging to the community are considered public entries unless otherwise noted. That means that everyone is able to read your thoughts, unless you make sure to mark something private.
5. We know some people aren’t ‘journal’ people, so you can also post the RP logs on in the threading community - please put these behind a cut - to show activity. This includes IC IMs, phone calls, or logs of AIM scenes.
6. There is not a character limit, per se, however, you will not be allowed a second character until you’ve proven that you’re active with your first. Or a third until you've proven that you're active with your first and second, etc.
7. Also, within the Somewhere in Seattle SL, we’re trying to keep it as ‘realistic’ as RP can be. We don’t want (and won’t accept) eight hundred celebrities, inexplicably wealthy teenagers, or other such characters. Be original. Be creative. That isn’t to say that if your character is famous, they will be automatically rejected. We judge each character as they come and, in some cases, may just ask you if you want to tone down the fame of your character or something. It’s always open for discussion.
8. As far as PBs go, we don’t care who you use, but we aren’t going to be reserving them. If you want to use someone for your character, apply. It's first come first serve. If you ask to 'please hold such and such' we will say no. However, once you’ve applied, if we’ve asked you to revise your character for any reason or we just aren't able to get to your application right away, we will hold the PB for you while it's pending.
9. If you wish to have your character belong to more than one SL that's fine, just make sure there is a logical reason for it. Please do not have a carbon copy of your character here and in another community while using the same journal. That's annoying and confusing and we don't like it.
10. Above all, we want everyone to enjoy RPing in Somewhere in Seattle and are happy to do what we can to make sure that happens. Respect the moderators, respect the other players, and have fun!
We know these rules might seem a little picky, but we really want to run a different sort of SL; one that isn’t your typical bunch of annoyingly and pointlessly famous people that all conveniently live in the same apartment building. Once more, please feel free to contact the moderators with any questions you might have.
